GARY, Ind. -- Authorities said an angry parent attacked a fourth-grade teacher with a stapler at a Gary school while students watched. Police arrested the woman shortly after the attack Thursday afternoon at Beveridge Elementary School. Gary Community School Corp. spokeswoman Sarita Stevens said the woman entered the school from an unlocked door. Stevens said the woman, who is expected to face assault charges, was upset over the teacher's disciplinary tactics with her child. Stevens said the teacher was treated for head wounds at a local hospital. A message requesting more information on the charges filed was left Saturday with...

America, Here's Your Change Candidate in 2012 (Gary Johnson)

Thursday 9th of September 2010 04:16:19 PM
Posted by admin / Under Gary Chaloner

Count another one in. Gary Johnson, the former two-term Republican governor of New Mexico, is launching his new Our America PAC, an obvious stepping stone to launching a run for president. Next time around, the “Ron Paul revolution” will have a new candidate, one that will promise sweeping libertarian change and that has executive experience and a persona more marketable than the squeaky-voiced self-proclaimed “defender of the Constitution.” In many ways, Johnson makes for an obvious Republican presidential candidate. He was reelected as the governor of a swing state that tends to vote Democratic and the press gave him the...

Barack Obama's audacity of hype crumbles

As he approaches 100 days in office, the President faces a grim reality check. Buddleia has taken over large parts of downtown Gary, Indiana. The city, once home to 300,000 people, is down to just a third of that. There are mile after mile of deserted, derelict and abandoned homes; sub-zero winds blow in off Lake Michigan. "Gary, Indiana is like an eagle poised to fly," mayor Rudy Clay tells me, "All we need is the air of the fiscal stimulus beneath our wings and we'll soar once again and make America proud." The mayor has applied for $400 million...

It's 10:35 and Gary Indiana hasn't reported any votes yet (Signs of fraud)?

Thursday 9th of September 2010 04:16:19 PM

This could be nothing- but with 85% of the vote reported in the Indiana Primary, only two counties haven't reported a single vote - one of them is Lake County (Gary, IND) - a county with a large African American population. Maybe they're trying to 'find' some more votes for Obama. The Dems have done this before, in St. Louis during the 2000 presidential election, and a fe years back in King County (Seattle) during the WA state governor's election. Sorry, but this stuff makes me nervous.

Hammond mayor: School field trip 'unethical' politicking

Thursday 9th of September 2010 04:16:19 PM

Gary officials said they were busing in hundreds of high schools students to vote in advance of the May 6 primary as a learning experience. Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr., a supporter of Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton denounced it Wednesday as a shameless political power play. "To me it seems like an orchestrated effort on behalf of the Obama campaign to take kids who should be in school learning to read and write, instead giving them a day off and telling them to vote for Obama. "When you corral kids together and ship them to polling places,...

Stern arrives,satellite audience rising

The biggest gamble in the short life of satellite radio hits the table at 6 a.m. today, as Howard Stern starts what he calls his creative rebirth at Sirius. The most prominent morning host on commercial radio for 20 years, Stern joined Sirius because he says the FCC's vague content guidelines made it impossible for him to do his "real show" any more. Because satellite listeners pay a monthly subscription fee, like cable TV watchers, the FCC does not regulate content - though Stern's arrival has amplified calls for such regulation to be authorized. Stern's switch to Sirius, with his...

Publication of “Jawbreaker” Excites Trolls ! A former “CIA Commander” – (that’s what Newsweek calls him ) – named Gary Berntsen has finally managed to secure CIA clearance for the publication of what looks to be an interesting book , entitled “Jawbreaker”. According to Newsweek ,Mr. Berntsen says Osama bin Laden was able to escape from the siege of Tora Bora in December,2001 because US Central Command would not allow more American troops to be deployed. He adds he was sure bin Laden was there, because sources he trusted had told him so ; and he disagrees with former CENTCOM commander...

As a group of residents cheered, a Glen Park man tackled Gary Patrolman Carl Cochran, choking the officer and threatening to kill him in an unprovoked attack Wednesday night, Lt. Roger Smith said. Banks, 40. Cmdr. Jerome Krebes said Thursday he ordered additional patrols in the area in response to the incident. A small group of people — ten or less — surrounded the officer during...

You Gotta Have Hartby Daniel Sargis16 April 2004Gary Hart, who was appointed to co-chair the U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century in 1998 by then-president Clinton, has decided to skipper himself into the shenanigans of the 9-11 Commission.   You might think that ex-senator Gary Hart would want to sit out the latest D.C. Monkey Business.  But, just like his bloated ego previously exposed him (“'follow me around . . . it will be boring”)...he’s at it again.  Some people don’t have the sense to know when to keep their zippers up and their mouths shut.  Too bad Hart...

Gary, Ind., leads in per capita homicides

GARY, Ind. (AP) — This northern Indiana city appeared to finish 2003 with the nation's highest per capita homicide rate for the ninth straight year, according to police statistics. Police in Gary, population 103,000, investigated 69 suspicious deaths, 68 of which have been classified as homicides. That total was about 10 percent higher than the 62 in 2002, but down substantially from the 132 people killed in 1995, the Post-Tribune of Merrillville reported Friday. Based on information from police in major U.S. cities, Gary was poised again to post the highest per capita homicide rate for cities with population of...

ARY, Ind., Nov. 26 — This city, with its sputtering smokestacks that line Lake Michigan and its shuttered, boarded, barred downtown, has tried everything to save itself — a theme park, a beauty pageant, murals, baseball, basketball, gambling. Then this summer, the city's most famous son came home for the first time in forever, stopping by his childhood house, which was not that much bigger than the black limousine he rode up in.He had an idea to help his struggling hometown build a performing arts center, where actors, dancers and musicians would draw paying crowds and where students would perfect their...
